6 Feng Shui Tips to keep in mind for your Bedroom
Feng shui is an ancient practice that balances different elements to create a harmonious space. Incorporating feng shui concepts into the way you arrange and decorate your bedroom may produce a peaceful ambiance and improve your sleep.
A feng shui bedroom is known to bring about peace, relaxation, and balance. You may also notice you’ll sleep better if objects are organized in a particular manner. People who practice feng shui also believe that it brings about better health, luck, and success.
The bedroom is the most important room in your house to apply the feng shui principles. After all, we tend to mostly spend our time in the bedroom. From choosing colors to the placement of certain objects in specific corners of the space, there are a lot of different ways to bring feng shui into your bedroom. Here are some best practices:
1. A Steady headboard for your bed
A headboard represents stability and support in Feng Shui. A headboard that is made of solid wood, without any separation in it, fastened to the bed, is suggested to be used. It’s suggested that the bed is placed opposite the door rather than being aligned with it since too much energy will flow through the door.
2. Choose the right colors and lighting
Feng shui bedroom colors should be calming. As a rule of thumb, use furniture, bedding, and accessories that are neutral color tones. It is okay to incorporate the colors that represent the different elements, but ensure they aren’t too bright or overwhelming. Primary colors, such as reds and blues, are usually not a good choice. Soft lighting, such as that emitted from table and desk lamps, is ideal for a feng shui bedroom. Also, it is suggested to allow as much natural light as possible.
3. Use elements in pairs
Feng shui experts believe that pairs symbolise harmony. If possible, use pairs while placing furniture such as side tables on either side of the bed or other accessory elements such as pillows, bedside lamps or wall accent lighting.
4. Don’t use mirrors
Mirrors are thought to disturb sleep and make the energy in a bedroom too active. You should especially avoid placing a mirror directly in front of your bed. As mirrors are thought to reflect energy around a space, which means that it could disrupt your sleep. However, if you really want to have a mirror in your room, you can put one inside a closet door or have it face the window.
5. Get rid of all the clutter
Unnecessary clutter can really disturb the energy in your room. Keep all your items organized, and if possible, out of sight. It’s best not to store anything under your bed. This allows for energy to flow freely around you while you sleep. If you must store belongings under your bed, only stow soft pillows, blankets, linens, or other sleep-related items.
6. Don’t store books in your bedroom
While it’s alright to keep a few books in your room, too many can overpower your space and make it feel like a place of work.
